Happy Thanksgiving!! Ever think about words? One little word can make a big difference in what something really means. Today, let’s positively ponder proper use of prepositions when partaking in the parties of pilgrims past. That’s a fancy way of sayin’ we’re gonna look at two different words in a phrase regarding Thanksgiving.
You might have heard this before…”Be thankful in all things…”. I have, too. But last weekend, I heard it in an all new way. Let me explain …
All of us have challenges, or things we learn on this journey in life. You could say we are all pilgrims on a pilgrimage (yep, going with the Thanksgiving theme today and stuffing all the analogies in). This week, I was dealing with something that is a bigger “challenge”. And then that phrase came up.
Be thankful in all things.
That’s right when I got a nudge. I knew God was at it again, because it was the kindest, most gentlest nudge. He pointed out, “The words don’t say, “Be thankful for all things”.” And the light bulb went on…in not for!
Does God really give [insert any yuck crap thingy here]? Here’s a tester:
- Question: is it in Heaven?
- Answer: If No – not from God. If Yes– from God.
So, if it is not from God…should we be thankful for it? That’s where it becomes crystal clear:
Be thankful in all things… not for all things.
Why in all things? Because we are never alone. He is always with us in all things that come our way.
Made me laugh as I thought of a belly button…inny or an outy? I wanna be an inny… and be thankful inny all things. Anything. Or would that now make it… innything?
I don’t think any of us like being thankful for yuck. But sure love that God is always there with us in the yuck.
Hope you have a BEAUTIFUL Thanksgiving every day…being thankful in all things.
